Okeford Fitzpaine in Dorset - illustration for a book about the village
I have 30 years experience as an illustrator. I trained at Salisbury Art College gaining a Diploma in Graphic Design, then spent a further year at Bournemouth Art College and gained another Diploma in illustration and design. For six years I worked in a design studio in Bournemouth which held a Disney licence, working on mainly Character Merchandise - Books, Comics, Packaging, Puzzles and Greeting Cards. Also the Super Hero Characters such as Superman, Batman etc. I was part of the art and design team who worked on all the merchandise to promote the huge movie in 1978 " STAR WARS " . We also worked for the late Jim Henson on the Muppet Show merchandise. After my daughter was born I decided to go freelance and have worked very successfully for many well known clients, To name a few ………….. B.B.C. Worldwide. Walt Disney Productions. Templar.Brimax. Parragon. The Book People. Scholastic. Hasbro. Autumn publishing. Athena Posters. Brown Watson. Topthat Publishing [Raymond Briggs,Snowman.] Pestalozzi. D.C. Thomson & Co, Ltd. Holland Enterprizes. For five years I worked for the B.B.C. illustrating all their story and activity books for the pre-school T.V. hit THE TWEENIES. I illustrated a page in Disney's weekly comic ARIEL'S WORLD. I have also worked on many activity, sticker, colouring and board books, plus educational work books for primary schools, and for the very young. I am very versatile with my art as I have illustrated a Cookery Book and a book about village life and just recently I went from small to large scale, when I was commissioned to paint a 20 ft Mural for a preparatory school in Dorset, which was great fun, the children and I decided together what they wanted on the wall outside their dormitory. The result being a very colourful Disney Mural. I work in a wide range of medium, - Airbrush, Gouache, Inks, Crayon, Watercolour, Acrylics and Black line. I like my subject matter to be cute, simple, bright and fun, to create maximum impact
