I've had a passion for making stories from pictures for as long as I can remember. As a child I used to spend hours with my cousin Geoff, drawing hilarious, gory medieval battle scenes on pages of a large diary. I became very popular at school drawing caricatures of my friends...and teachers!

Before becoming a freelance illustrator I served a good old-fashioned apprenticeship in a London commercial art studio and became their studio manager. Among other things I remember producing packaging designs for Marks and Spencer, which is how I became skilled in hand-drawn lettering.

My heroes are Rackham, Dulac, Hergé, Giles and Hokusai.
